Günther Domenig set new accents with his stone house next to lake Ossiacher See

  • Location: Steindorf am Ossiacher See
  • Architect: Günther Domenig
  • Photographer: Walter Oberbramberger
  • Country: Austria
  • Region: Europe

The stone house looks like an independent, bizarre landscape built out of stone, glass and concrete. For 31 years, Domenig combined various cubes, acute angles, pyramids and crystalline elements into a house structure. It’s for sure the architects opus magnum and attracts lots of visitor every year. The stone house has enjoyed international recognition for decades and has been widely published worldwide - after all, it is regarded as a key work of deconstructivist architecture.
Since 2012, the building has been declared a Historic Monument. The transformation of regional landscape elements led to an architectural sculpture with a noticeable spatial intensity. The house has been standing for years as an architectural workshop and think tank between the disciplines.
In 2016, it was added to the international ICONIC HOUSES platform as the world's youngest house museum.
