A great Danish designer - Jørn Utzon

“I like to be on the edge of the possible,” – Jørn Utzon

Lasse Andersson, Utzon Centre Creative Director, explores three of Jørn Utzon’s architectural masterpieces, the Sydney Opera House, Ahm House and Can Lis, and reflects on why Utzon is still one of the most celebrated and visionary Danish designers of the 20th Century.

Heavily influenced by nature, Utzon worked with metaphors to inform his design, creating a unique sensation of space. As a keen traveller, he drew inspiration from historical structures and methods of construction from Peruvian Inca architecture to Chinese pagodas.

Utzon had a clear understanding of the singular experience of architecture and its relationship to time, nature and its surrounding environment. Whether he was explaining his vision using Lego bricks and sugar cubes, or constructing some of contemporary architecture’s most admired buildings, this film is an insight into this iconic Danish designer.
